Oostende, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium

A collegue of Ed's invited us to join him and his family for a day at the beach. We drove west to the Belgian Shore in the town of Oostende, located on the North Sea. Having driven in the fog for an hour and half we weren't too sure how the day would turn out. When we arrived in Oostende it turned out sunny and beautiful. The girls jumped right in to playing in the sand with their new German friend and were having a blast. One change of clothes later we enjoyed a nice lunch at a cafe located a block off the beach. After that we decided to go back to the beach and let the kids play. Tori decided to go in the buff and swim in the water. Emilie wasn't so sure about it and only took off her pants (due to her new friend being a boy and all). Of course being good parents we didn't bring their bathing suits because we thought the water would be freezing cold. But that didn't stop the kids from having fun. After the beach fun we strolled along the boardwalk and headed to our cars. We happen to time it just right and arrive when the sailboats were going through the locks back into the canal. So we watched the whole lock evolution and bridge raising to allow the beautiful sailboats past. After that we parted ways with our friends and headed home. We definitely found a nice place to travel to in warmer weather. Unfortunately that won't be for another 10 months.
